Palo Alto bike shop robbed; arrested man

PALO ALTO, Calif. (KRON) — A man was arrested after a robbery at a bike shop in Palo Alto on Friday, police said in a news release. The incident happened around 2:43 p.m. at the Cardinal Bike Shop at 1955 El Camino Real, where officers arrested the suspect without incident – three minutes after a call about a robbery.

Subject asked store clerk (male in his 40s) for money, took it from store clerk who gave it to suspect out of fear for his life, and left the store in a Lexus Gray ES-350 from 2009, according to the press release. . An investigation reveals that the incident took place when the suspect wanted to sell a used electric bicycle.

When store staff refused to buy it, the suspect searched through his backpack, making it look like it contained a weapon. The suspect also made verbal threats of violence and once he received the money he left the store, leaving his bike behind.

Subject has been identified as 23 year old Michael Lindstrom-Spence. He was incarcerated in the Santa Clara County Main Jail on felony theft and felony threatening charges.

Police said no one was physically injured in the incident. After a search, police found no weapons in the subject’s possession or in his vehicle.

Cardinal Bike Shop is located just outside the Stanford University campus.
